The Recumbent Trike
The Recumbent trike is an adult tricycle that, similar to a recumbent bicycle, puts the rider in a low position that is similar to sitting in a chair. They’ve recently become more popular as baby boomers have discovered their advantages in comfort and safety.
Recumbent tricycles come in two varieties, one with two rear wheels and another with the double wheels in the front
Some of the advantages of recumbent tricyles include:
- They’re well-suited for people with balance problems, those who are afraid of falling, and people who have missing or non-functional limbs.
- There’s no need to remove the feet from pedal clips when stopped. Feet need not even touch the ground in order to maintain balance.
- When climbing hills, the trikes can use a very low gear to make ascending easier. The low speed that’s used with such a low gear does not cause a loss of stability.
- They can make very sharp turns without leaning
